Checking your email online with the built-in system is the easiest way, but it can also be convenient to check your email from your phone. If you want to use Gmail on your phone, here’s the best way to set up your custom email address!
Note: this guide is meant to connect MXRoute emails (which I use for my clients) with Gmail on a smartphone.
Set Up Gmail
First, install the Gmail app on your phone if you don’t already have it, and open it up. It should look something like this:
Next, click on the three lines in the top right corner. Scroll down this menu, and click on “Settings” near the bottom. From here, click on “Add account”:
That should bring you to this screen:
Click on “Other” to use a custom email address.
Here, just enter the custom email address that you already have.
Also, enter the password you were given for this email address.
This screen gives you a choice for setup on your email. In general, POP3 downloads emails from the server to your device while IMAP syncs emails across your devices. If you don’t know which one to choose, choose IMAP.
For the incoming server settings, you should need to change one field. Under “Server”, make sure you have “mail.wattswebsites.com”. Then click “Next”.
This next screen has similar settings. Just change the server again and continue. Note: if this step or the previous step gives you errors, it may be blocked by a VPN or adblocker. Try turning these off or using mobile data instead of WiFi.
This brings us to some account options. You can change them if you want, but it is recommended to leave them alone and skip this page.
Finally, you have a chance at the end to change your name to anything you want. This will be shown to anyone you send emails to. After you click “Next”, your email should be ready! From the home screen of Gmail, you can find your new email account by clicking on the icon in the top right corner and selecting your email address.
